Definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
News out of the entertainment industry was definitely positive for all deplorable’s who believe in MAGA. The movie moguls of Tinseltown, just as out of touch as the inhabitants of the Washington, D.C. beltway, are steadily losing money. Hollywood and the box office had a summer that continues the downward spiral of the last few years. This is how Breitbart’s John Nolte begins his report on the…catastrophe:
Even before this catastrophic Labor Day weekend is factored in (more on this below), the domestic 2017 box office is in hideous shape. This year is –6.3% behind 2016 and continues to fall behind 2015, 2013, and 2012.
If you figure in inflation, those numbers are even worse. For example, in 2012 the average ticket cost $7.96. Today it is almost a full dollar more at $8.89. Yeah, things are that bad and will look even worse on Tuesday.
With no apparent faith in their own product, this is the first Labor Day in 25 years where a new title has not been released on more than 1,000 screens. Over this weekend last year, the box office hauled in nearly $130 million. This year will do about a third of that.
Summer attendance is at a 25-year low.
The summer box office is down a whopping –16% compared to 2016.
Well, what do you know? The American public is not bowing on the altar of Hollywood. There are, of course, reasons for this that Hollywood as a whole will never acknowledge:
Lack of Originality in their product – How many remakes of classic movies and films will the executives rehash before they realize audiences can only take so many of them. Even the timeless themes of Jane Austen have been overused. With a lot of movies, messing with the magic of the original is a big no-no – and that’s all they seem to be doing. (It’s like they’re afraid of taking a chance on something new.)
True Lack of Script Writing Ability – Just exactly how many speeches not written by Shakespeare are on par with the Indianapolis Speech from “Jaws.” Yes, that movie was made by a phenomenal score and a great film editor, but the writing wasn’t half bad, either. That is an art form that is simply not present in today’s Hollywood. (See lack of originality above.)
Lack of Humility and Restraint of “Talent” Spouting Leftist Drivel – Um, yeah, we the people who are free to choose our entertainment options are opting to not go to the movies when the “talent” in them are making a gazillion dollars for the efforts, and insult our beliefs and deeply held convictions on a regular basis. It’s called a boycott, and there’s been one going on for a number of years now.
And then there’s the leftist propaganda constantly thrown in. (That’s been going on since the 1940s, at least.)
All of this combined is not going to entice those who do not want to pay outrageous prices to sit in a theater with people checking their phones constantly, and who chat through the whole movie. It ruins the experience.
Until Hollywood seriously addresses all of this, the industry is essentially committing suicide.
Not that they are noticing.
